Step inside and become a customer in a world where nothing is for sale in the usual way. Here, the currency is secrets, memories and desires.
Guided by a mysterious shopkeeper, you will move through an intimate and carefully crafted environment where theatre, installation and live encounter blur together. With only a small group of customers at a time, every moment feels close, personal and slightly unpredictable.
As curiosity pulls you deeper, the ordinary begins to slip. Encounters become unsettling, choices begin to matter, and the line between control and surrender starts to fade.
Inside the shop, 13 strange relics have appeared overnight. They look ordinary, but they are not. You may choose to take part in a game of chance through sealed blind boxes. Some hold more than objects. One unlocks a private one to one experience that shifts everything.
This is a dark and playful journey into temptation, power and the unknown. The question is simple: what are you willing to exchange? What would you be willing to trade for something you truly need?TeamBehind the CounterThe Shop For Mortals and All FoolsCurrent | Live Immersive Experience2023 | Film And We Might Briefly Resonate2016 - 2018 | live performance | UKGLITCH2021 | LIVE PERFORMANCE | UKR.U.R2020 | online | UK 2026 | LIVE PERFORMANCE | UKThat Old Gaf On Meatham Estate2023-2024 | online performance | UKUncharted Waters Are Navigable by Little Paper BoatsSlot ProjectEXPLORELEARNREADHOMEBUYSALLES

Relics, Desire and the Search for Awe: A Conversation with Elina Pasok
https://youtu.be/7FurcaDW2yg
As part of the development of The Shop for Mortals and All Fools, I sat down with artist Elina Patak to talk about her work, the Relics of Mortal Desire blind boxes she created for the show, and the stories we attach to objects.
One of the things that struck me most was how often our conversation returned to the idea of healing.
Elina described a painting she made while recovering from a deep cut on her hand. As she healed, she embroidered red thread into the painting, each stitch becoming a blood vessel. By the time the work was finished, her hand had healed too. The painting became not just an image, but a record of recovery.
That immediately resonated with me because The Shop for Mortals and All Fools is also about retelling. The central character revisits the same story again and again, and through that process slowly heals herself. It reminded me that sometimes we tell stories not to remember the past, but to survive it.
The conversation then moved to the Relics of Mortal Desire. Inspired by ancient votive offerings, the blind boxes contain small handmade relics that Continue ReadingPresence Is Not Optional Anymorearrow_upward
Presence Is Not Optional Anymore
Examining Immersive Theatre Through Space, the Other, and Presence. What is at stake when you invite someone to a space of tension?
We live in a time of constant distraction. We scroll, skim, consume, and move on. But then another pin, another quick video grabs our attention and pulls us elsewhere. Once again. How can we remain present when we have trained ourselves to seek stimulation elsewhere, to scroll, skim, and move on? We have become accustomed to experiencing life through these patterns of consumption, shaping how we learn, pay attention, connect to each other and make meaning.
Theatre, however, asks us to stay. It asks us to remain in a room, with other people, sharing the same moment.
What interests me about immersive practice is that it goes a step further. It does not simply ask us to stay. It invites us to inhabit a world.
“What I love the most about Vinicius’ workshops is that from the very first moment you step in you are immersed in another world, a world in which your mind is set free to explore both the dark and the bright corners and go to places where it’s never gone before!” (Miruna Mogo)

Keeping the Doors Open:
The First Month of The Shop for Mortals and All Fools
A month ago, we opened the doors of The Shop for Mortals and All Fools and wondered who might find their way to us.
Since then, 350 customers have visited the Shop across 27 performances. More than 5,500 people have encountered the project online. In just 12 days, conversations about the work have travelled well beyond the walls of the Shop, shared by visitors, recommendations, and those who felt moved to tell others about their experience.
For a show that welcomes a maximum of 20 people at a time, these numbers have been both surprising and encouraging.
As a result, we have decided to extend the run. The Shop for Mortals and All Fools will now continue until the beginning of July.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this first month has been witnessing the different interpretations brought by Emma Kirrage, Kathryn McGarr and Kate Webster. Each performer approaches the story at the heart of the Shop in a distinct way, creating three very different experiences for audiences. This has also been the inspiration behind our bundle tickets, which allow customers to encounter all three versions of a tale Continue ReadingSmall Scale Experiencesarrow_upward
The Beauty of Small Scale Experiences
There is something very special about small scale experiences.
After the show, someone DM'd this to me:
“What really excited me about the Shop was seeing how small-scale immersive work can combine that kind of atmospheric language with a more text-led theatrical form and still create the magic. It really worked and sparked a lot of thoughts for me.”
We are trained to believe that great theatre only exists in large spectacles of mainstream productions. But I do not think that is always true. Sometimes the smallest spaces can leave the deepest mark. Let’s face it, we all crave one to one experiences anyway.
After stepping away from Punchdrunk for a while, I realised I wanted to explore immersion differently. I wanted to return to something more intimate, more fragile, more unexpected. At the same time, because I write, I became interested in creating theatrical experiences where text guides the audience like a conductor, leading people carefully through a living story. So I started searching for worlds where I could combine both.
Over the years, immersive theatre has often become associated with scale. Bigger worlds, larger audiences, more spectacle. Technology seems to be associated with the word "immersive" more than Continue ReadingThe Stories We Carry Homearrow_upward
The Stories We Carry Home
At the very beginning of the show, the shopkeeper tells the customers:
"You know… I think these items here don't trigger the stories of others, but our own…"
There are shops that sell items. And there are shops that sell the invisible and the immaterial, which is precisely what The Shop for Mortals and All Fools offers its customers: stories shaped into items that continue living even after the show has finished.
Now, for the first time, the shop has begun selling a collection of blind boxes. Buyers do not know what they are purchasing until the box is finally opened. Each sealed box contains a unique handmade piece created in collaboration with Anita Wadworth, Alzira Salles, Bronia Kupczyk and Elina Pasok. Each holds a story, a secret, something to be completed by its owner.
The blind boxes function as extensions of the performance itself, allowing fragments of the stories inside the show to travel into people’s lives.
Hidden somewhere beside the River Thames, behind curtains and pagan rituals, The Shop for Mortals and All Fools does not behave like a traditional theatre production, but instead subverts old stories into new perspectives. Customers do not simply attend. They enter. They Continue ReadingA Partnership with Emmaus SLCarrow_upward
Objects with Lived Histories
A new collaboration introduces an additional layer to the experience of The Shop for Mortals and All Fools, extending its concerns with memory, narrative, and exchange into a tangible, material form.
In partnership with Emmaus SLC, a community working with people who have experienced homelessness, the project incorporates a curated selection of donated pieces into the fabric of the shop. Emmaus SLC operates through a model that goes beyond temporary accommodation. It provides stable homes alongside opportunities for meaningful work, shared responsibility, and long term personal development. Residents, known as companions, contribute to the running of the community, creating a structure built on mutual support and participation rather than dependency.
The pieces presented within the shop emerge from this wider ecosystem. Sourced through donation and redistribution, they carry traces of previous ownership, use, and circumstance. Their significance lies not in aesthetic or monetary value alone, but in their connection to lived experience. Marks of wear, shifts in context, and the accumulation of time become part of their meaning.
Positioned within the environment of the shop, these pieces operate at the intersection of object and narrative. They function as material remnants of interrupted and ongoing lives, reframed within an immersive context Continue ReadingWhich Agatha do you prefer? Which will you dare to meet?arrow_upward

The Counter Will Not Always Be The Same
Three women have been chosen. Three women who, each in their own way, carry the particular quality the shop requires. Not charm, exactly. Not warmth. Something older than both. The kind of presence that makes you feel you have been seen rather thoroughly, whether you wished to be or not.Their names are Emma Kirrage, Kat McGarr, and Kate Webster.Emma is the kind of woman who has been many things to many rooms, actor and dancer, working across film, television, immersive theatre and motion-capture for video games. Recent work includes Shapeshifter for Mariner Studios, Falcon Eyes for Ligatura Films, and Suspicion for AppleTV. She also writes and directs her own short films, and her piece CLICHÉ was selected for Lift-Off Global Network's Hollywood First-Time Filmmakers Showcase. And Kate, well. She brings a wealth of stage experience from the National Theatre, the Young Vic, the Arcola, and Theatre Royal Haymarket, to acclaimed productions such as The Vagina Monologues and Edward Bond's Lear at Sheffield Crucible.
